BLE beacons are Bluetooth signal transmitters, thanks to which we can realize One Button and Beacon Zone functionalities in Grenton system. To support them, Smartphone or tablet must be equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 and android system in 4.4 version at least. Home manager application installed on the device sets its position on the basis of beacon signals (transmitted via Bluetooth) and then it communicates with the system via Wi-Fi.

To realize the below functionality, you will need:

  • Bluetooth – BLE signal transmitter
  • Mobile device with Home Manager application installed on it, supporting Bluetooth 4.0 standard.
  • The environment for creating the system logic - Object Manager

The realization of the aforementioned functionality will require the creation of:

  • Mobile application interface

Adding BLE Beacon module

In order to add Beacon to the project, go to tools to make the interface of mobile application Visual Builder in a software for creating the system logic - Object Manager.

Next, use the previously created interface or create a new interface for the mobile application.

Open the edition window of the mobile application page by double-clicking the appropriate page on the mobile application interface list.

On the selected page of the interface from Components palette, place One Button (or Beacon Zone) icon.

After dropping One Button (od Beacon Zone) icon on the workspace of the mobile application page, there will appear Beacon configuration window.

The window comprises three tabs:

  • Source – the source is generated automatically – inability to change the properties of this module,
  • Beacons – it includes the identification information of the module and it enables to assign the action to the events generated by the use of Beacon,
  • Parameters – for One Button functionality defines the location of Beacon on the mobile application interface; for Beacon Zone functionality, a bar invisible during the usage is placed automatically in the bottom part of the mobile application interface – inability to change the properties of this element.

Enter the preferred Beacon name in Beacons tab, which will be displayed in Home Manager and Beacon ID (SN) – Beacon’s MAC address.

To find MAC address of selected Beacon, you can use free program Locate Beacon, which is available at Google Play Store. After installing and running the program, select the option Locate Beacons.

In a newly opened window, there will be shown all Beacons in the range of the device.

Read the MAC address from the displayed parameters and type it in Beacon ID (SN) field in Beacons tab.

For One Button functionality for OneClick event, there should be defined a functionality which will be realized after pressing the icon in Home Manager mobile application.

Beacon Zone functionalities have 3 events:

  • OnZoneEnter – generated while entering in the beacon area,
  • OnZoneStay – generated while staying in the Beacon range area,
  • OnZoneOut – generated while leaving the Beacon range area.

To each of these events, there can be assigned other functionalities, which will be realized depending on the localization of the Home Manager mobile application.

The configuration of the Beacon BLE module in Grenton Home Manager mobile application

After the end of adding Beacons to the interface, you should send the interface to Grenton Home manager mobile application. To do this, select the mobile interface to which the added Beacon was assigned, and press the below button on the toolbar and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

After saving the interface on the device, go to settings.

In settings, go to the BLE Beacons tab, which enables to set the threshold of each Beacon’s action.

BLE Beacons tab displays all Beacons located in the project with its power of the signal.

After selecting a concrete Beacon, you can set any threshold of its action in the scope from1 to 100, which corresponds to the per cent value of the signal power declared by the producer of the device.

The action of the button in the application is dependent on the set action threshold and the distance of the mobile device from the Beacon. The view of OneButton, depending on the presence in the range of a Beacon is presented below:

One Button, analogically to the regular interface buttons of the interface of Home Manager mobile application, can be placed as widgets on the main screen of the mobile devices with Android system.
